My Journey

Hey Everyone,

We have gotten so many comments about the background music. To give credit, the music was a free service I implemented from Playlist.com. Unfortunately, Playlist.com recently changed there services and is no longer supporting on-demand playlists, which is how it was setup. I am currently in the process in finding a similar service like Playlist.com that supports on-demand playlists. If you know of any services, please write in a comment.

Thanks,
Adam Cunningham

Dad went to see his heart doctor yesterday.  He is putting him back on his blood pressure meds.  The good news is that the doctor was ok with dad going off of his blood clot shots.  Instead, dad will be taking a pill that will do the same thing.  This was great news for the family as dad belly is sore and bruised from all the shots.  The doctor wants him to come back in 6 months.

In addition, his heart doctor was so happy to hear the good news that dad is in remission.  Months ago, before chemo started, my dad had to go to this doctor to get approval for treatment since my dad’s heart is in afib (meaning it does not beat regular).  The heart doctor took out a pocket cross from his pants and asked my parents if it was ok to pray with them.  After the prayer, the doctor asked for a blessing.  He put this cross on my dad’s heart and asked God to heal my dad.  So here we are in present time, my dad visiting the heart doctor and telling him the good news:  dad in remission and it was a moment to be reminded of all who prayed for my family over the last few months.

The church put a 4:38 second video together to celebrate Father’s Day. Here is the video… pay attention to around the 1:10 mark. HINT HINT!!!!

had a wonderful father’s day with the family. with all that has happened with my dad’s health, Adam and I wanted this father’s day to be really special. Saturday, we took dad (and the family) to see Star Trek. We all love Star Trek but dad/Adam is big fans and can give you all kinds of details. Then we went to dinner and came home and chilled as a family watching tv. Sunday, we went to church and then out to dinner. Then we gave dad his presents. We ordered him some snoopy playing cards (as we love to play cards and He love snoopy). We also ordered him a snoopy shirt. However, his big present was a gift certificate to ride/drive a WWII plane for 30 minutes. There will be a pilot with him but he will be able to do all kinds of different tricks etc. As you may know, my dad is a history buff (guess where I got it from). Plus, he use to fly small planes. So combine both and it was the perfect gift. Going to do it in July sometime!

Sunday is Father’s day. Feel free to drop a note off to my dad on his web site… under the comment section. We are planning Saturday to take daddy out to the movie.. to see Star Trek and dinner… a surprise! Then we are going to chill at home and play some cards. Sunday will be church and chilling at home. He does have to go to work Sunday night. Truly a blessing to be celebrating father’s day with dad being in 100% remission. What a true blessing!

Since dad has been ill, we have not got to go to church as my dad just was too ill to go out anywhere. We have worshiped at home together. Today, after months of not going, the family was able to go to church as my dad is getting stronger each day. We got into the car, one of Elvis songs came on the radio “If I have a dream” which happens to be one of my favorites of Elvis.

Then as we are driving into Alvin, we see a rainbow – a sign of new beginnings. Today’s sermon topic: Miracles.

I have said thank you so many time to God for the miracle my family has been given. Today’s message was a reminder that miracles do exist and that God is listening to our prayers. The pastors took time today to publicly welcome my family back and that touched not just my heart but my whole family’s. It was nice to worship with those who have been praying for us all these months. In behalf of my family, I thank the FUMC of Alvin for all you have done. My dad felt God’s love every chemo treatment with his prayer quit. Thank you God for the miracles you do every day – minor and major.

On June 2, dad went back to work this past week. He is excited to go back to work as the walls of the house was probably getting to him. LOL!!! In all seriousness, I am glad he is feeling better and is able to go to work. Thank you for all the prayers and thoughts.

There is another cancer survivor I would ask for you to pray for. His name is Korbin and he is a 15yr old from Elk City Oklahoma who was diagnosed with an inoperable glioma brain tumor. The Cunningham family met Korbin and his family when both Dad and Korbin was undergoing radiation treatment at the proton radiation center.

Please visit Korbin’s Facebook page and hit the “like” button. I promise you, won’t regret it.

Thanks!!!!

Today is National Survivor Day. So I want to take a moment to celebrate my dad and I’s victory over cancer. We are strong! We are winning the war. We are survivors. Thank you to God and our wonderful caretakers, my mom and my brother Adam. Also want to thank all of our friends who have supported us throughout the years http://www.ncsd.org/ Relay for Life 2013

Tonight, dad will be going back to work. It is truly a blessing. He has not been to work since February. I sit here and think of the journey my family has been through. The people who have touched us and how we touched them. The friends that we are closer to. The bond we have with each other. The bond we have with God. The happiness of living life. I am so thankful that dad is well enough to go back to work. Praise God for all of the glory.

You know dad is feeling good when you see him eating his Little Debbie nutty bar cookies. He eats one every day! Soon after chemo started months ago, his daily favorite treat tasted funny and he stopped eating it. what a blessing to see him eat his favorite daily food again. God has truly blessed us!

Dad went to his oncology doctor at MD Anderson – Clear Lake. She released Dad to go back to work on June 2, 2013. It is going to take couple years to rebuild his sick leave, but he is looking forward going back to work.

In addition, MD Anderson already has Dad’s next PET Scan scheduled, which will be August 19, 2013 06:30 AM.

Hello to all of our friends and family,

As you all know Dennis went for his PET Scan today.  When we first got there unfortunately they told us there was about a 2 hour delay, I guess the PET Scan in the Mays clinic brook down so they were sending all of those people to the Main MDA.  But believe me when we say it didn’t matter how much of a delay we would have to wait for as long as we could get it and the Dr. could tell us the results.

Well here is the results that we were waiting for and all of you also.   The Dr. came in and said that the Endoscope that Dennis had last week was great no tumor was found in either place in the esophagus or by the stomach, but we didn’t know about the biopsies well they came back totally normal no cancer was found.  YEA!!!!!!!

Then he said that Dennis’s PET Scan today showed NO I said NO I got to say it one more time NO Cancer has been found in Dennis.  YEA!!!!!!!!!!!

He has some inflammation still there but the Dr. said that is normal from the Chemo and Radiation.

Treatment in the future:  The Dr. said Dennis does not have to have any surgeries, no more radiation and no chemo.  We had asked the Dr. if he would have to have chemo for X amount of time afterwards because we know some people that had cancer and when they got to the point that they had no cancer they still had chemo for X amount of time.  The Dr. said that not with the type of cancer that Dennis had.  Yea I said HAD!! So he doesn’t have to do anything, except get a little stronger and keep kickin butt.

We ask if this means Dennis is Cancer free and the Dr. said that they don’t say a patient is cancer free for 5 years of being cancer free then you can claim that title.  Now he is in remission with NO cancer showing.

He has to do a PET Scan in 3 months and then again every 3 months as long as he stays cancer Free then as time goes on he will go to 6 months and then yearly on getting the PET Scan.

Even though we all heard it but Dennis still is having a hard time feeling that he can say I am Cancer FREE!  I can understand his feeling knowing what he has been through it just hasn’t hit him yet.

When we got out to the car in the parking garage I opened the sun roof to our car and Dennis and I shouted as loud as we could Thank you Lord!!!  I do believe in miracles and I feel with all of the prayers that God heard about Dennis and God knowing his life still needed to be here on Earth, God healed Dennis and answered everyone of your prayers and the Cunningham families prayers.

So now you ask what about the Blog well don’t quit looking at it we will still update it, let you know how he is doing and look at the new pictures coming up on what Dennis looks like with a full head of hair again lol.

Dennis wanted one thing after he went to the Dr. today and that is he wanted to go to Chedders which for the people who don’t have a Chedders it is a restaurant.  Dennis wanted his Baby Back Ribs and so guess where Dennis went and what he got.  Your right!  Here comes the ribs!!

The Cunningham family wants to thank each of you for all the support and prayers that each of you have shown us.

Keep looking at the Blog for updates.  God Bless each of you.

Great news. Test results showed no cancer cells! Biopsy from other day shows no cancer. Dad got some inflammation in lungs but that is normal due to radiation. Dr said that will go away after a while. No Chen or radiation. PET scan in three months. Praise God to the highest!
